A young Mexican couple narrowly escapes the Juarez Cartel by fleeing across the border into Texas, only to be run down in the desert by the Cartel’s most brutal thugs. Rescued by a mysterious local who takes them to the safety of his family’s ranch, the couple soon realise their hosts have more than just skeletons in their closet. Trapped in a house of horrors beyond their wildest imagination, the army of assassins on their trail might be the least of their problems.

Thoughts…This is a great series, very different from the other more supernatural horror stories that we have read. This is a more psychological thriller type which also has some more visceral horror moments throughout, there are some truly horrific moments within the pages and made more so as this has a basis in reality not creatures that go bump in the night. It is that real world feel, with humans being the enemy, that lends to the overwhelming sense of fear and dread to the series. That any part of this story could actually happen, the cartel violence and the crazies hiding out in the rural parts of the world.

The art throughout was really great, some really crisp and clean lines and great details across all issues. It doesn't shy away from a bit of gore and when the reveal is made in the basement to our main characters it does a lot to really hit home what you are looking at, properly terrifying stuff.

The writing is well paced and moves the story along well, we get action, personal moments, humour, horror, and more than a couple of twists and turns along the way. The series brings everything together in the end in a very satisfying conclusion. This is an easy 8 out of 10 for me, I feel this book is often overlooked as the other launch titles get a bit more spotlight but this definitely deserves equal attention for sure.
