Two months in and what a year we have had already, January was a good month but February has really upped the ante. With 4 titles on offer this month, 2 of them coming to an end, one great issue 2 and one amazing new series this month we were really spoiled.
Starting Feb off we got the Black Tape #1, this rock and roll Satanic mystery series hit all the right chords during all the promotional build up and when I finally got to read the issue I was pleased that the hype was spot on. A slower build than I thought it was going to be but a great first issue that introduced the players and left us in a great place to pick up in issue 2.
Next we had the last issue of E-Ratic Recharged, the 4th issue in this volume ended the story nicely and left us with a few loose ends that I am hoping will lead to a volume 3 in the future or have E-Ratic pop up in a Resistance crossover event maybe…This series was a great follow up to the first and a great read.
Then we had Trojan #2, what a great follow up to the first issue, we learn more about the setting and the world that Nessa lives in and a bit more of a background to Dirk as well. We get a nice little twist here that wasn’t completely unexpected having seen some of the promotional material but it was handled in a really cool way, looking forward to seeing where this series goes from here.
The last title of Feb was #5 of Year Zero Vol 0, this issue was a fitting end to the series and a great start to the Zombie Apocalypse. There were more than a few moments of real emotion and danger in the issue. I think this series was the one where I felt for the characters the most throughout, a great addition to the Year Zero family and I hope not the last.
What have we got coming up in March?
March starts off with yet another highly anticipated new series Red Zone, with #1 coming out 1st. This is Cullen Bunn on writing with Mike Deodato on the art, this is a spy thriller with a twist, getting a sense of Bond meets Taken from the solicitations. This is bound to be another winner for AWA for sure.
On the 8th we get the #2 of Black Tape, I can’t wait to see where we go from the way the first issue ended, looking forward to seeing us get deeper into the mystery of the series and learning more about the setting and the movers and shakers.
The we get #3 of Trojan on 15th, I am intrigued by this series and am interested in seeing which way this goes. The first two issues have been great and I think all the pieces have been put in places now but I bet there are still a few surprises to come.
