First thoughts…..
I have no knowledge of the source material so went into this story blind to what happens. Without going into to much detail as you will want to read this book for yourselves, I found this book to be intriguing and captivating. A great story, great characters, it all pulls you in and keeps you reading, learning more about Lu and his experiences. It is paced nicely, leading you by the hand as we see Lu get his bearings on this new way of life. There is a gentleness to the storytelling that works wonderfully to bring you into the setting. Then bam, different elements of the story kick in and everything goes spinning out, what those are you will find out when you pick up your copy.
Artwise, it is very crisp and clear, with some great attention to detail. The style suits the story well and as people have seen from the previews that have been released of the pages the colour work is spot on, vibrant, warm and lavish.
This is AWA Studios first original graphic novel, with previous release being issue by issue monthly comics. I think this all at once collected style worked really well for this story. I would have enjoyed reading it month to month don't get me wrong but having it all as one liked this was definitely the right choice for this title.
