A global disaster leaves hundreds of millions dead in its wake. Shortly after, a few thousand suddenly manifest superhuman powers. Are they harbingers of more perils to come… or Earth’s last hope?
Thoughts… One of the first four and one of the most influential releases of the early days. From this series multiple more have followed pushing this universe forward. This series laid the groundwork for what came after in a spectacular way. This was a different approach to superheroes and felt more gritty and down to earth. The story was engaging from the start and had great pace throughout. The characters are all well rounded and interesting and the way that there is fear and distrust for the unknown as well as the government's response to it all is a perfect driving force for their development over the course of the 6 issues.
The art is fantastic as you would expect from Mike Deodato, his style really works well with these gritty stories and makes them feel more real in a lot of ways. With his trademark cameos it gives the whole thing a more Hollywood feel adding to the grandeur of the series.
This series is amazing, it's because of the attention that went into this book that it has grown beyond these pages and has become so much more. This on its own would have been awesome but the fact that more was planned to come from this gave it so much more weight to the whole thing. I can remember reading it for the first time and being blown away and wanting to read more of this setting. What has come after this has been just as good but this was the start of it all, the big bang of the Reborn Universe. This series is a 9 out of 10 for me without a doubt, if you haven't read it yet I would recommend doing so ASAP.
