An electromagnetic disturbance results in the sudden awakening of telepathic powers in a tenth of the Earth’s population. In the moments after the world comes to grips with this development, newly-telepathic Boston police find themselves sent against a wrongly convicted prisoner who becomes a hero and leader of other telepaths trying to escape a world in which their powers will make them targets. Both are heroes of their own story, and the future may depend on whether or not trust can be found between them.
Thoughts…I enjoyed this series, reading through the issues it felt like it was written to be a TV show. There was a good story and some great characters in the series , especially with the police officer Jack and the leader of the convicts, MIles. Both these characters had strong motivations and these drove the story forward nicely. There were some great set ups in this series and some great uses of the powers that people get, it's not just straight forward telepathy.
There is also an ongoing mystery as the series continues that is sort of in the background for a lot of it but definitely comes front and centre by the end of the run.
One thing I will say about this series is it felt very similar to the work in The Resistance, with powered people, governments fearing them and wanting to control them. What this does differently though and I don’t mean this in a bad way, is it waters it down to make it like a smaller event, even though it is still on a global scale. The timeline of events is much more condensed and more focused on these characters and is less far reaching.
This felt like a good series to read, enjoyable with some great moments, very cinematic and it would work well as a TV show or film. It feels unfair to compare it to the more established Resistance but it's hard not to when it comes from the same writer and it makes me wonder what came first in his mind. I would give this series 7 out of 10 and it would be interesting to see more of this setting in the future.
